Just south of Paris in Villejuif, 361TECH publishes its puzzles as 361 Play, an independent game studio. We design panorama puzzles for Android in which a full 360-degree view has been sliced into rings that turn independently.

A village square, a harbour at dawn, a snowy summit. The player rotates each ring until the horizon lines up and the picture snaps back together, revealing small details that were hidden when the view was scrambled.

Nothing is timed and nothing can be lost. A ring that is out of place glows faintly, and a single hint shows which ring to turn next without revealing by how much. Later views add rings that move together, which turns each puzzle into a gentle problem of order.

The panoramas are painted by hand in soft, bright colours, inspired by real places around France but simplified so that every landmark is easy to recognise on a small screen.

Finished views are collected in an album and can be explored freely by dragging around the full circle.

New sets of panoramas follow the seasons, so the same harbour can be solved again in summer light or winter mist. The game works offline and remembers exactly where each puzzle was left, which makes it easy to play a few turns at a time. Each panorama also hides a few small characters, such as a cyclist, a fisherman or a cat on a wall, and finding them all unlocks a short illustrated note about the place that inspired the view. The puzzles are designed to be enjoyed by players of all ages, and the rings can be made larger for comfortable play on smaller phones. Our small team tests every view on several phones before it is released, so the rings turn smoothly on older devices too.
